Type A Jadeite Buddha Pendant, Icy Green Glow, Gold Bail

A natural Type A jadeite seated Buddha pendant in icy texture, with a green glow in the belly and a gold bail, about 20.3 × 22.8 × 5.7 mm.

Icy jadeite is fine-grained and highly translucent, so light passes through it with a clear, watery glow. Moist and flawless: inside the icy body a soft green runs from the head down to the belly, deepest in the belly as if it held a pool of green water, while the clear white sleeves on either side make the green stand out. The gold bail at the top is ready for a chain.

The seated laughing Buddha is modeled on Budai, a monk of the Five Dynasties period who, legend says, always carried a cloth sack and smiled, and who came to be seen as an incarnation of Maitreya. At 22.8 mm wide this one is a comfortable medium size for women and men.

This is natural jadeite, so it may hold fine stone lines or small cotton-like flecks, marks left as the stone formed. Phone screens can make the green of this Buddha pendant look brighter or darker than it is; the video in natural light is the best guide. Screens show color differently, so it helps to check the video as well.
