Type A Jadeite Laughing Buddha Pendant, Icy Clear, Gold Bail

A natural Type A jadeite laughing Buddha pendant in icy texture, icy-clear and almost colorless, on a gold bail. About 30.8 × 33.8 × 5.7 mm.

Excellent texture. The whole figure is as clear as a block of ice, showing almost no color under light except for a faint blue in the curve of the belly, like a reflection under water. The Buddha's eyes crease in a smile, his hands rest on his knees, and his big belly is carved as one smooth dome with no extra lines, which shows off the clarity of icy jadeite best.

The seated laughing Buddha (Maitreya) is known for his open smile and big belly that can hold anything; he is the most popular subject for jadeite pendants and stands for a generous heart and good fortune. At 33.8 mm tall he sits well on the chest, and 5.7 mm of thickness gives the belly a full curve, for women or men.

The clearer the icy material, the easier it is to see fine cotton inside, and this figure has a little up close, proof that it is natural. Colorless jadeite picks up the colors around it, so the pale blue in the photos can shift with the setting; go by the video. All photos and the video are of this piece.
