Type A Jadeite Laughing Buddha, Icy, Lavender Belly, 20.6mm

A natural Type A jadeite laughing Buddha (佛公) in icy texture, icy white with a patch of pale lavender (春色) on the belly, about 17.1 × 20.6 × 5 mm, unset.

Icy jadeite is fine-grained and highly translucent, so light passes through it with a clear, watery glow. The seller wrote "great texture, flawless": the whole figure is clear and clean with almost no cotton, and best of all, the purple falls exactly on the round belly, as if the Buddha holds a cloud of violet light, a clever use of natural color. The head, hands and robe folds are carved full and rounded, the smiling face kind and calm.

The seated Buddha wishes a ready smile and a generous heart; by tradition men wear Guanyin and women wear the Buddha, so it suits women especially. At about 20 mm it is small and refined, ready to wear on a cord or to be set in gold as a pendant, a thoughtful gift for a mother or close friend.

Natural jadeite shifts a little with the light, warmer indoors and fresher in daylight. Every photo and video of this 20.6 mm lavender-belly Buddha shows this exact piece, with no color editing.
