Type A Jadeite Wu Shi Pai Pendant, Icy Snowflake, Gold Set

A natural Type A jadeite wu shi pai (无事牌) plaque pendant in icy texture with snowflake cotton (雪花棉), set in real gold. The stone measures about 36.6 × 23.8 × 1.8 mm.

Icy jadeite is fine-grained and highly translucent, so light passes through it with a clear, watery glow. White flecks of snowflake cotton are scattered all through the clear base like snow caught in ice, a feature many buyers look for in icy jadeite. The plaque is cut thin, so light passes through and makes the snowflakes stand out. The real gold frame has an openwork edge and is ready to hang on a chain.

A wu shi pai has no carving, so the stone has to carry it alone, and here the plain face shows the snowflake cotton at its best. "Wu shi" means "nothing amiss", a wish for smooth, peaceful days, for women and men alike.

This is natural jadeite, so it may hold fine stone lines or small cotton-like flecks, marks left as the stone formed. This plaque is icy and lets light through, so strong light shows its inner detail more clearly. The gold setting reflects light, so photos can look a little brighter than the piece.
