Icy jadeite is fine-grained and highly translucent, so light passes through it with a clear, watery glow. Clean and flawless: the tiny seed pod is wider at the top and narrower below, like a small upturned bell, with a ring of round lotus seeds carved on the face. It is icy and bright, and the seeds catch the light as it moves. A small, refined piece with a gold bail.

A lotus pod is full of seeds, and "lian zi" (lotus seed) sounds like "continuing children" in Chinese, a traditional wish for a growing family; the lotus, rising clean from the mud, also stands for a pure character.
