Type A Jadeite Laughing Buddha Pendant, Icy Clear, 18K Gold

A natural Type A jadeite laughing Buddha pendant in icy texture, clear and colorless, set in 18K white gold. The stone measures about 22.4 × 28.6 × 3.8 mm.

Icy jadeite is fine-grained and highly translucent, so light passes through it with a clear, watery glow. Clean and clear as ice, almost colorless, the whole figure lights up when light comes from behind. The laughing face, long ears and round belly are carved in distinct layers, and the belly is polished brightest, like a dome of ice. At 28.6 mm wide it is a medium-to-large Buddha, and the open back of the white gold setting lets light reach the stone.

The seated Buddha is Maitreya, a figure of open-mindedness, tolerance and contentment. An old saying gives Guanyin to men and the Buddha to women, but a clear, colorless Buddha is simple enough to suit men just as well. Icy white goes with any skin tone and any outfit, a piece to wear for many years.

This is natural jadeite, so it may hold fine stone lines or small cotton-like flecks, marks left as the stone formed. This Buddha pendant is icy and lets light through, so strong light shows its inner detail more clearly. The gold setting reflects light, so photos can look a little brighter than the piece. Please judge it from the photos and video of the actual piece.
