A natural Type A jadeite pixiu (貔貅) pendant in lavender, set in real gold. The stone measures about 18.8 × 15.2 × 7 mm.

Icy-glutinous jadeite sits between icy and glutinous: fine-grained and semi-translucent, with a soft glow. A beautiful color: an even, rich and soft lavender all over, fine and moist. The pixiu crouches and looks back, with its mane and claws carved clearly and a full, rounded body. It is set in real gold and ready to hang on a chain. Chun se (春色) and zi luo lan (紫罗兰) are the trade names for lavender jadeite.

The pixiu is a mythical creature of Chinese legend. Folklore says it takes in but never gives out, so it is often seen as a symbol of keeping one's wealth, and it is a popular jadeite carving subject.

Type A jadeite is never acid-bleached or polymer-filled, so its original cotton and stone lines stay as they are. The lavender of this 18.8 mm pendant is sensitive to light: warmer light pulls it pink, daylight pulls it blue. The gold setting reflects light, so photos can look a little brighter than the piece.
