Type A Jadeite Laughing Buddha Pendant, Icy, Gold Bail, 29mm

A natural Type A jadeite laughing Buddha (佛公) pendant in icy texture, clear with a blue-green (晴水) tint, with a gold bail, about 26.7 × 29.3 × 5.9 mm.

Icy jadeite is fine-grained and highly translucent, so light passes through it with a clear, watery glow. A beautiful base color, clean and flawless: the round belly shows a soft blue-green, so the light seems to flow through it. The Buddha smiles broadly, seated in a full, rounded pose. The gold bail at the top is ready to hang on a chain.

The laughing Buddha is Maitreya, whose big belly and broad smile stand for an open, tolerant and cheerful outlook; it is one of the most popular jadeite pendant subjects. A traditional saying has men wear Guanyin and women wear the Buddha, but today anyone wears either.

This is natural material, and some areas may show faint cotton spots or stone lines, which are normal natural features. This 29.3 mm Buddha pendant is icy and lets light through, so strong light shows its inner detail more clearly. Every photo and video on this page shows this exact piece.
