Type A Jadeite Melon Pendant, Lavender, Gold Bail, 30mm

A natural Type A jadeite melon pendant in icy-glutinous texture, soft lavender in color (the trade calls it 春色, "spring color"), with a gold bail. About 30.3 × 14.7 × 8.7 mm.

Lovely color and a juicy glow: the top is almost white, and the purple deepens slowly toward the middle and base into a gentle lavender. The surface has a good gel-like luster. The melon is a smooth teardrop with no extra carving, so the material speaks for itself. A gold bail sits on top.

In Chinese the melon stands for 瓜瓞绵绵: long vines and many seeds, a wish for blessings that keep going and a growing family. That is why it is called a fortune melon. At 30.3 mm long it sits just below the collarbone where it is easy to see, and the 8.7 mm depth gives it a full, rounded look.

Lavender jadeite changes with the light: pale violet in daylight, a touch of pink under warm light, cooler and bluer under white indoor light. Like most natural jadeite it has a little fine cotton you can see up close; it does not spoil the overall look. Every photo and the video show this exact piece.
