Type A Jadeite Safety Coin, Icy with Green Flecks, 23.4mm

A natural Type A jadeite safety coin (平安扣) in icy texture, a clear body dotted with a few clusters of green, about 23.4 mm across and 4.7 mm thick, unset.

Icy jadeite is fine-grained and highly translucent, so light passes through it with a clear, watery glow. The seller's words were "good texture, plenty of water": the coin is so clear that the skin texture of the hand shows through, with a faint blue-green glow at the rim; on one side a few small green clusters are scattered like tea leaves floating in a glass, and there is a touch of light green near the bottom. The domed faces are well rounded and the center hole is neatly drilled.

23.4 mm is a common medium size for a safety coin and suits both men and women. As an unset piece it can be hung straight away on a red or braided cord, or taken to a jeweler for a gold setting in a style of your choice. The safety coin wishes safe comings and goings, a good gift for family.

As a natural mineral, jadeite nearly always carries some cotton or stone lines; they do not affect wear. On a phone screen the color of this 23.4 mm icy safety coin can look stronger or paler than it is, so the video in natural light is the best guide.
